SUMMARY:April Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Reflections on 40 years in Clinical Infectious Diseases  \nThis is a chance to hear some personal reflections from Prof Derek Macallan as his clinical career comes to an end. He first came to St George’s as a trainee in 1988\, having qualified in 1983\, (hence the 40 years in the title). He specialised in Infectious Diseases so has seen the HIV and COVID pandemics sweep through – among others. His talk will focus on how doctors find their place in relation to their patients\, their teams\, the systems in which they operate and the risks they carry. Ultimately it is a personal story of how one person found his place in medicine.

SUMMARY:April Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Panorama of the Thames \nJohn Inglis\, Director of the Panorama of the Thames project\, will speak about this which  began in 1999\, in response to public concern that familiar river views were rapidly changing as a result of new building developments – changes which have increased significantly since then\, and continue as the banks of the Thames through London become even more desirable for luxury housing. \nThis record takes the form of panoramic images which show riverside architecture in the context of the waterway\, and includes integrated data on every building.

SUMMARY:March Meeting
DESCRIPTION:There will be a members only AGM at 7.30 to be followed by a 15 minute social & drink. \nFollowing the social there will be a showing of the Friends of Wandsworth Common’s highly rated film Common Memories which many have not had an opportunity to see. In fact\, many of those have seen it would like to see it again! Non-members just wanting to see the film should arrive at 8pm. \nCommon Memories\, premiered at the Wandsworth Heritage Festival in 2023\, is a beautifully produced oral history. This hour long film has been distilled from 20 hours of interviews with lifelong residents of Wandsworth Common relating their memories of their long lives in this area. \nThe film is a great testament to the volunteers: Ros Page and her team of interviewers\, Rosa Navas\, who sensitively edited the footage into such a wonderful film\, and of course to the interviewees themselves.
