We were to welcome local art historian\, artist and lecturer\, Julia Jane Heckles MA\, who was to talk about William Morris and The Arts and Crafts Movement. The movement set up their textile workshops at Merton Abbey Mills on the River Wandle and are an important part of local heritage. William Morris led the Arts and Crafts Movement which has had such a huge influence on the decorative arts.

SUMMARY:Visit to 2 Willow Road
DESCRIPTION:The Society has  a private guided booked a private visit for members and their friends to Ernö Goldfinger’s 1930’s Modernist home in Hampstead. The house\, completed in 1939\, forged a new pathway for modern design. The house is a compact domestic dwelling and can take only 12 visitors at a time which makes for an interesting one hour interactive tour. \nOur tour is for 11am and places are strictly limited. The house is 5 minutes from Hampstead Heath Overground Station and easily accessed from Clapham Junction. DESCRIPTION:As the Wandsworth Society’s contribution to the Wandle Fortnight the Society is organising a stroll to look at different views of the Wandle and the Thames\, including a designated vista of the mouth of the Wandle. \nMeet by the Crane pub\, at the beginning of The Causeway and finish at Putney Bridge Station (with frequent 220 and 270 buses back to Garratt Lane).  No booking necessary.
