SUMMARY:February Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Love your Common.\nThursday 14 February\, 7.45pm for 8pm \nAn illustrated talk and discussion with Julia Bott and Richard Fox\, Co-Chairs\, The Friends of Wandsworth Common (FOWC). \nWandsworth Common is the largest green open space in the Society’s area. The Friends group\, launched last May\, now has almost 300 members. And the Common is of course enjoyed by many more – of all ages\, for all sorts of recreation\, walking\, bird-watching\, dog-walking\, sports\, cycling\, relaxing\, meditating…… \nWhat is the Friends’ vision for the Common? How will they achieve it\, working with the Council and the Common’s management company\, in tandem with the’MAC’ (Management Advisory Committee) and the Wandsworth Society? \n2019 will be a significant year in the Common’s long history – the first public tender for a contractor to manage the Common who will then work to a new management and maintenance plan\, now due out in March (following earlier public consultation). We expect a lively discussion about the Common’s future!

SUMMARY:January Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Battersea Power Station – past\, present and future\nThursday 10 January 2019\,    7.45 for 8pm \nA presentation on Battersea Power Station. Yes\, in the beginning there were only two chimneys\, presently there are many more cranes than this (we’ve lost count)\, and please note the image of the future is more than a little conjectural … Battersea Power Station is currently being ‘transformed’ (for better or for worse – what do you think?). \nOur speakers will be: \nJeanne Rathbone\, Battersea resident\, local historian and popular tour guide (a ‘hard hat’ tour was enthusiastically enjoyed by Society members in 2017)\, and \nAlex Baker\, Community and Sustainability Manager for the Battersea Power Station Development Company \n
