Capability Brown’s Landscape in Wimbledon Park: Then & Now

Wednesday June 6, 2018 @ 9:00 pm

Free

A talk by Dr Dave Dawson – the Society’s contribution to the Wandsworth Heritage Festival 2018 – for which this year’s theme is the borough’s parks and open spaces. Naturescope on Wandsworth Common sits alongside the Skylark Café. It can be approached from either Dorlcote Road (parking available in the vicinity) or from John Archer Way. If weather is good, there is the opportunity for a pleasant walk across the Common, and refreshments will be served outdoors from 7.45pm.

Wimbledon Park is included on English Heritage’s Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest. The park was transformed in the 18th century by the English landscape architect Capability Brown and the lake was formed as a focal point for the house located to the south of the present park.

Please note this will take place in Naturescope on Wandsworth Common
