The Festival line up has now been announced with a range of interesting events including tours, walks and exhibitions. The theme this year is Entertaining Wandsworth.

On Thursday this week Colin Murphy, Senior Engineer on “our” section of the Tideway Project gave 50 Society members and friends a fascinating talk about the scheme. As well as an excellent overview of why Thames Water need to spend some £4.2bn on digging a very deep 25km tunnel under London we had a detailed update on the goings on in Wandsworth. The treatment of King George’s Park (see picture), where a number of mature trees had to be felled was particularly interesting and left us quite optimistic about the outcome.

The programme is now available for the 10th annual Arts Fringe, listing 150 events in 64 venues across the Borough. There something for everyone, some free and some ticketed, some day time and some evening. The brochure can be picked up in libraries and other public spaces or on line

Charlotte, the tunnel boring machine, started digging the Frogmore Connection Tunnel on 26 March. When the project is complete in 2024, the 1.1km tunnel will take sewage overflows from King George’s Park into the main 25km Thames Tideway Tunnel at Fulham, where it will be transferred to east London for treatment. The Collective has launched public consultation with neighbours on a proposal for a co-living housing development on the car auction site. It comprises three blocks, of up to eight storeys, providing 292 studio rooms for rent comparable to a student hall of residence, with common spaces, a cafe and improvements to the Wandle riverbank.
