A new tall building for the town centre

The planning application for a 20-storey tower was approved at the Planning Applications Committee meeting of 19 May. The site is immediately behind the Wandsworth Medical Centre on Garratt Lane, on the east bank of the Wandle opposite the recently completed Pocket Living building on Mapleton Crescent.

The Society objected to the application, submitted in 2017, principally as we considered the building to be too tall. We welcome the opening up of the riverside walk associated with the proposed development, but regret that this has come as the price of another tall building.

Consultation on North Wandsworth Masterplan

The council is preparing a masterplan for a large area of industrial land north of Armoury Way and along the Wandle Delta.

The masterplan will be adopted as a Supplementary Planning Document to produce a guide to future development and investment. In order to better understand the wishes and priorities of locals the council are holding two information and feedback sessions. These sessions will be at:Wandsworth Civic Suite, Wandsworth High Street, February 20, 5.30pm – 8.30pm ans in Southside Shopping Centre, next to Waitrose entrance, February 22, 10am -2pm.

Application for 20 storey tower at 86-96 Garratt Lane

In 2017 an application was made for this mainly residential tower in the town centre on a small site between “Pocket Living” and Garratt Lane, and alongside the Wandle. The application – with subsequent minor amendments – is now close to being determined. With large petitions from resident groups and over a hundred individual objections, including those from the Wandsworth Society and the MP, the outcome looks interesting. Yet another new residential tower in Wandsworth Town Centre? Or power to the people? Wandsworth Council application 2017/0535.
